I have recently made many visits to one of our major teaching hospitals – taking an ancient relative to see her son who has been in there for some 10 weeks. He’s had a great deal of hospital treatment over the years and sadly doesn’t seem to get a lot better despite their gargantuan efforts. I swear the man is scared of getting better and having to stand on his own two feet. I digress – it has actually been fascinating to watch the way the staff in his ward manage to do their duties cheerfully and without answering back – I’d like to knock matey’s head off personally – but the nurses and other staff are so very patient. They take CPD online courses to ensure they’re up to speed with all aspects of their chosen career. The application of cathaters and other tubing looks terrifying but they take it in their stride. Online courses help to keep them abreast of latest thinking in nursing practice.
