Student

Derived from the Latin 'studere', which means "to direct one's zeal at"; in this way, a student is one who directs zeal at a subject.

In widest use, student is used to mean a school or class attendee. In the UK, the word student tends to be reserved for higher education or university students, whilst persons attending classes in primary or secondary schools are called pupils.
